Medicare Cost Report e-Filing (MCReF) How-To

The new Medicare Cost Report e-Filing system (MCReF) gives Medicare Part A providers the ability to file 100% of their cost report, including supporting documentation, online.

Many users have questions about how to access and use MCReF, so we have created a collection of resources that addresses the most commonly asked questions.

WinLASH ECR Files:

On the MCReF site, WinLASH files will map to the upload “slots” as follows:

  • ECR: This file will start with either FQ, RH, HH, HS or SN and include the provider number. Example: SN145000.18A1

  • Print Image: This is the file that starts with PI + your provider number. Example: PI145000.18A1 (Note: some examples provided by CMS show this file as a PDF. WinLASH creates a plain text file which is also an acceptable format.)

  • Signed Cert Page: This page prints automatically when you build the ECR files. You will need to check the box indicating an electronic signature, sign and then scan to PDF to upload to MCReF. Click here to view a sample Signed Certification Page.

  • Other: All other supporting documentation should be zipped into one file and loaded here.
